History The Glockner man took place for the first time in May 1997 with 4 Competitors as a 3 Day competition. On the first day the route went from Graz over the Soboth through Abtei to Oberfellach. Second day Oberfellach, Mallnitz with "Tauernschleusse"(motorrail) to Gastein, Hochtor and back to Oberfellach. The last leg went via Villach, the Abtei, Soboth and back to Graz, where the first Glocknerman ended after 699km and and an altitude diference of 600 meters.
After this successful premiere the Glocknerman was carried out again as a stage section competition in 1998. In 1999 the ultra bicycle marathon was initiated for the first time. 4 riders finished successfully. At the same time a competition with stage sections was carried out.
In 2004 the 8, Glocknerman was carried out as the Ultra Bicycle World Championship and the stage section competition was cancelled. Valentin Zeller was the first overall world champion.
