Der Glocknerman

Glocknerman is the oldest extreme-cycling race in Europe and one of the oldest extreme-races in the world. The event is a great sporting and mental challenge for the participants.

There are three different routes:

  • Sprint
  • Classic
  • Ultra
Participants of the Classic and Ultrastrecke participate at the same time in the Ultracycling World Championship. The following age limits apply to the Ultra and Classic route: Male participants under 50 years of age ride on the Ultra route, male participants over 50 years on the Classic route. There are no age restrictions on the sprint course. Ladies can participate on all courses without age restriction.
Men under the age of 50 can also start on the Classic route after prior consultation with the organization, but they drive outside the World Championship.

Rennbesonderheiten

CityRadeln
The Glocknerman starts in cooperation with CityRadeln, where over 500 hobby cyclists ride together with the Glocknerman athletes through the town on cordoned off streets. At the refreshment station after around 10 km the Glocknerman participants officially start their ride to the Großglockner.
Tracking and timestations
Every crew needs an one Android smartphone that is used exclusively for the tracking. Athletes from abroad need a cellphone with no sim-lock, so it can be used in every telephone network. At every timestation the current time has to be announced to the race organization.
Final dinner
On Saturday, all ultra and classic drivers and crew members are invited to award ceremony and the final dinner. The traditional dinner at the Glocknerman gives the opportunity to get together with all the colleagues in the comfortable setting once again and to celebrate the success together with the team.
Sprint drivers are also welcome. Since the sprint finish is on the Edelweissspitze most drivers do not return to Graz, therefore no costs for the tickets were taken into the starting fee. Tickets can however be purchased at the check-in.
Großglockner High Alpine Road
The GroßglocknerHigh Alpine Road is the highest passable road in Austria and also the highest and longest climb at the Glocknerman. All three routes pass the High Alpine Road, the Ultra cyclists take it twice. The sprint route ends at the Edelweißspitze. There is a toll for the accompanying vehicle, but this is included in the entry fee.
Glocknerman Live
All live data and results of the Glocknerman are available on an extra homepage. At www.glocknermanlive.at the live-tracking as well as the results, diagrams, live ticker and participant are available all year round.
